Airport West Metro Station

The Metro station is public infrastructure, but also a gateway into the Airport City. The curved form of the concourse with 2 extended arms for entry seems inspired by flight and movement.

The concourse is lifted above the street level platform and connects users across the Airport Avenue road to the Airport city on one side, and the Cargo Road on the other, with footbridges extending on each side.

The design keeps the steel structure restrained and elegant, but is detailed to complement the architectural character.

Design Approach

The concourse design is refined to make it a connecting node between the north and south parcels in the airport city and its precinct. The roof of the concourse is an elliptical shell with the drama of skylights inserted.

The footbridges that extend across on either side to the entry structures continue this elliptical language in steel. The triangular openings flip flop to a rhythm. The entry structures are welcoming with tall spaces, a central elevator and stone walls.

The station facade on the streetside is redesigned with a modern look and feel. A perforated metal panel facade is woven with the landscape at street level, allowing for air and light to diffuse through.
